In the primary school, teaching of reading, teaching of writing, oral communication and integrated learning together constitute the main contents of primary school Chinese instruction. Reading instruction plays an important role in Chinese teaching. Measure a student's language literacy, largely dependent on a person's reading level.First, this paper briefly reviews the current overall advance of the reading instruction at home and abroad, and point out the main problems in these days, then draw general concept of whole reading approach, it includes three levels, there are whole perception, part study and whole seize. Then discussed on the theoretical basis of whole reading approach from four respects and compared the traditional reading instruction and whole reading approach.Second, this paper is based on the current primary school language teaching materials by the style, by the style primary language teaching is a more complex problem, generally can be divided into narrative works, lyrical works and exposition work, studied with the typical case's fragments of reading instruction.Third, combined with the author's interviews with primary school teachers and classroom observations, summarized five methods in the primary school which should be adopted for the whole reading approach.Finally, this paper takes the literature search and case study method which combines the classroom observation, from a stylistic point of teaching and methods teaching to study the whole reading approach.The proposal of whole reading approach is under the background of the new curriculum reform, to some extent it can be improved the current status of reading instruction and help primary teachers to know a clear concept of whole reading approach theory. The better understanding of the text, the more you know. Whole reading approach can improve students reading ability.
