With the development of science and technology, popular science has entered every aspect of life. With the idea science popularization having been received more attention, whether the English teaching in secondary school has involved Pop science teaching and what is the significance? Defining the concept and scope of Pop Science discourse, the study does the assessment of the Pop Science in English Teaching Materials for Middle School as a study entry, comparing and analysising the proportion, range of subjects, genres based on the respective study of the textbooks of Shanghai version and the National Edition as horizontal reference and the Shanghai College Entrance Examination and TOEFL test as the vertical reference. It is shown through text analysis that Pop science accounts for a large amount, covering in a wide range of topics and showing most genre is exposition.Further analysis of Pop science focuses on its necessity and importance from the aspects of curriculum reform, bilingual teaching and cross culture integration. Deeper analysis of the difficulties in Pop science English teaching and its teaching situation pushes the study forward and explores new ideas of Pop science English teaching, preferring the discourse teaching as a whole from the ways of register analysis (the level of words, sentences), rhetoric and discourse analysis (the level of discourse) and topics and genres (the construction of discourse) and discussing the interdisciplinary teaching.
