The ongoing Education Reform attaches great importance to the enhancement of student's language ability and skills, besides which, it cares for student's development of emotion and attitude, the application of learning strategy and the cultivation of cultural awareness as well. Under such guidance, teachers and students are constantly seeking efficient ways to improve themselves. However, the enhancement of translation ability has been partially neglected in senior high school and students scored relevantly low for the translation part compared with other parts in the entrance examination. What's more, even those who usually do well in the English course make stupid mistakes while doing translation. Therefore, it is urgent to find out and solve the problems. On the basis of translation teaching history in China, relevant theories on Education and Psychology, this thesis is a survey and study on the enhancement of translation ability in Senior high school. The questionnaire consists of six aspects including the amount of time the teacher uses to teach translation, the amount of time the student uses to learn translation, teaching method, attitudes, homework and learning strategies. The objects of this investigation are to have a clear knowledge of the situation of translation teaching and learning in China and dig out the problems during the whole process, thus to pay more attention to the intercultural education and to find out effective ways to improve and enhance students' ability of translation. In the result of the survey, it is found there is a lack of importance attached to translation teaching and learning to some extent, particularly lack of the variety of teaching method and homework design. Relevant suggestions haven been presented in the last part of this thesis and further research is needed to be done in the future.
