In Jianghan Plain, as the important agricultural base in China, to solve the population problem, the key is to ensure stable production of food, and accelerate socio-economic development.This will select the Jiayu county in Jianghan Plain, for research, to explore the sustainable development of population in rural areas, with the background of rapid urbanization in China. It has practical significance, representativeness and feasibility.In this study, standing on the theory of sustainable development, according to the principles of sustainable development, based on the collation of population data over the years, to analyze the law of rural population growth, and to predict the future population size. Use the theory of population carrying capacity, to estimate the population carrying capacity in Jiayu county, to analyze the coordination condition among the population, resources and environment. To ground on the local facts, to bring up the proposal in policy to maintain the sustainable development.Based on the in-depth analysis of population growth and population carrying capacity in Jiayu county, obtain some conclusions of the the population sustainable development in the rural areas, 1rst, for a long period of time, population growth will continue at a relatively high level in the rural areas, and the population growth will bright a heavy pressure to sustainable development in the rural areas.2nd, cultivated lands is a key factor for the population sustainable development of in rural areas, reduction of cultivated lands will directly reduce the population carrying capacity, thus affecting the sustainable development.3rd, in rural areas, the development of economic is backward, and the urbanization level is low, the tertiary industries get behind, turn in to the important reasons for the low capacity population in rural areas.
