With the development of the whole world. people from every corner of the world have connected with each other. The world is called "the Global Village". China, as a member of the village, has been experiencing a dramatic change and development in the past decades, especially in the field of English education, in which the number of Chinese learners of English is the top one of the world. With the new curriculum reform, it is so necessary for teachers and students to change into a kind of new teaching and learning attitude to make teaching and learning more effective. Interactive teaching approach is an effective and promising approach to ELT, especially in middle schools. It originated from the well-known communicative approach, and characterized by its communicative nature. The word "interaction" as the key point of the approach means that mutual communication happens between teachers and students, or among students themselves, so that students' communicative ability will be developed. Interactive teaching approach is a branch of Communicative Approach and featured by the basic interactive methods between teachers and students, or students themselves. Interactive teaching approach is based on several perspectives, such as psychological perspectives of constructional study theory, humanism, linguistic perspectives as the Input Hypothesis, the Output Hypothesis, and Interaction Hypothesis, and pedagogy which is formed by many interactive activities such as monologue, pair work, group work, role play, and brainstorming, etc.The paper aims to put forward the significance of application of the interactive teaching approach to the ELT in middle schools(taking Chang'an No.7 Middle school as the object of study), according to the state of the English educational mode in middle schools. By means of questionnaire, classroom observation, and contrast & comparison, the author analyses the existing problems of the present ELT in middle schools, so that the interactive teaching approach, as an effective solution, would be necessary to make better teaching and learning result. And the approach also makes a meaningful contribution to second language acquisition.
