Typically on behalf of single-subject and professional colleges, the schooling conditions of foreign language institutes are limited, the available resources are limited as well, and the competitiveness on market is comparatively weak. Their survival and development in the new domestic and international environment face difficulties and severe challenges. Curriculum system reflects the trends of knowledge, science and technology, reflects the needs of social and economic development, and decides training objective, specification, quality and level of professionals. The reform and development of curriculum system is an important way for foreign language institutes to promote the core competitiveness and to achieve sustainable development. With the deepening of education reform and more and more fierceness of the competition between colleges as well as the necessity of theory development and reality, the research is imperative on the reform and development of curriculum system of foreign language institutes.By collecting and analyzing the literature related to foreign language institutes, curriculum system, core competitiveness and differentiation development, research perspectives and evidence of the paper were found out, which provides strong support to the originality of the paper. The paper, based on curriculum theory, differentiation strategy and the core competitiveness theory, analyzes the existing problems of the curriculum system of foreign language institutes from the aspects of curriculum objectives, curriculum arrangement, curriculum structure and curriculum content. Then the paper analyzes the case of the curriculum system of Sichuan International Studies University and makes a conclusion of obeying the principles of the diversification, internationalization, flexibility and localization, and introduces the safeguards of improving the curriculum system, evaluating the curriculum, strengthening teacher construction and increasing funds. Finally, the paper also makes suggestions of the reform and development of curriculum systems of the other types of single-subject and professional colleges, which focus on student-oriented, internationalism, practicalism and times.
