A primary goal of mathematics teaching and learning is to develop the ability to solve a wide variety of complex mathematics problems. Educational research has been conducted into the mathematics problem solving through both theoretical and applied research from 19th century. This kind of research is gradually on its ascending track for recent years in Mainland China.The initial step for problem solving is to recognize the problems, while it'sessential for the students to reformulate and process the problems. This pa-per introduces a systematic way for problem solving|Problem recognition andparaphrasing.Since Heuristics, memorization, constructivism,natural learning method provide kinds of theoretical information, we investigate the Mathematics Problem Solving and recognition through mathematical formulations and by the study of students behaviors.Problem Solving and recognition is the strategy to literally paraphrase the problem by mathematical expressions, and also to link the essential knowledge base therein. It emphasizes on the understanding, reduction, and describing the problems. To be speci_c, the strategies are to understand the problem within the details, restate the problems in their own words, and then rewrite the problem in mathematical expression.This paper demonstrates the application of the Mathematics Problem Solv-ing and recognition in the original math problems in the 2001 College Entrance Exams from various provinces. Furthermore, its application in High school.Physics and Chemistry are also under consideration within our scope.
