With the rapid economic development in the recent three decades after opening - up and reform, leisure and recreation has become part of a life style for the Chinese, which provides golden chances for the sports industry. The success of the Beijing Olympic Games in particular has given impetus to the industry whose ascent phase has arrived. Sports agent, who functions as the lubricant in the chain of sports industry development, has taken its role and captured increasing attention. Our nation's existing sports administration system affected by planned economy might obstruct the growth of sports agent, but it would not restrict sports agent from bringing forth its indispensible influence. The sports agent poses as catalyst in the market-based economy system, boosting the industrialization process of sports and accelerating the development of the sports market economy. However, a great number of problems still exist to be dealt with to improve the accomplishment, capability and competence of sports agent. Studies on competence have been one of the hot research topics in such areas like modern psychology, human resource management, etc., and widely applied in various social practices. However, relevant systematic studies have not found its way there. By studying the model establishment of the competence of sports agent, this thesis provides feasible methods for the future selection, education and examination for sports agent.This paper first provides an overview of the definition and current research of sports agent, presenting the latest theories and research findings home and abroad on competence. Based on the analysis of the recruitment advertisement for sports agent, the thesis draws up a questionnaire for the competence index by adopting documentation method, collecting key event activities and consulting related experts. It analyzes the validity, credibility and factors of the recollected questionnaires with the help of the SPSS13.0 software, and then establishes a model for the quantitative assessment of sports agent. It then assesses the model by adopting Analytic Hierarchy Process, Fuzzy Synthetical Evaluation to measure the comprehensive qualities of a virtual sports agent.This thesis comes to the conclusion that the competence model for sports agent consists of 7 dimensions and 31 indexes like accomplishment motivation, individual features, self-concept, decision-making ability, public relations ability, organization and communication ability, learning and application ability, among which public relations ability and organization and communication ability take greater proportions in the assessment. The research finding of this thesis can provide reference for evaluating several sports agents at the same time.
