Li Shu-chang is the first one of Guizhou to open eyes to the world in modern times. The reason why I'd like to deal with his opening eyes to the world is not only that he had once travelled in Europe and worked in Japan for many years, but that he had developed unique ideas about teaching after experiencing the modern western civilization during that time, and had put his ideas into practice, thus leading the development of education of a period, or rather, a region. Specifically, he had devoted himself to practice reform from the fields of industry, commerce, education and etc, and achieved remarkable results. This thesis mainly introduced him from education aspects as follow. He presented a memorial to the emperor in his youth, in which he advanced the idea of paying close attention to talents; while travelling in Europe, he visited western schools and opened his mind; while working in Japan, he set up DongwenSchool, as preliminary practice; after returning home from abroad, he began to actively practice, set up and reform new-system schools. Though not being a professional education reformer, Li Shu-chang had achieved remarkable result in educational innovation and reformation. What's more, he distincted himself in education thoughts, combining Chinese and western, and thus became a pioneer in modern education of the southwest, and had far-reading impact on the development of the southwestern education.
