Study On The Characteristics Of Youth Motivation And Atmosphere For Outdoor Sports And The Impact On Perseverance By Motivation And Atmosphere

With the boom of public recreation in China, outdoor sports—a new kind of fitness forms, are gradually acquainting recognition from people. On the one hand, outdoor sports could keep our physical and mental health like conventional sport activities, on the other hand, the unique characteristics such as naturality, adventure and novelty can reach various psychological demands of participants. For nearly 30 years, foreign psychologists have made lots of researches on participate motivation in outdoor sports, whereas the research conclusions are inconsistent. At home, outdoor sports are laggard. Moreover, the form and degree of outdoor sports are quite different from those in western countries. Accordingly, it is extremely necessary to develop localization research in the participants'psychological motivation, environmental and behavior characteristics of outdoor sports.This research selected 654 primary and middle school students as respondents, and their ages are among 11 to 18. And then the author made investigation by self-made outdoor sports participation motive scale, participation atmosphere scale and sports perseverance scale. The study did meta-analysis of demographic factors including gender, age and residence place. Using the statistical methods of exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, T-test, variance analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and CFA, this research obtained conclusions as follows:Firstly, though exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, this research has formed outdoor sports participation motive scale with 16 items, outdoor sports participation atmosphere scale including 17 items and sports perseverance scale contained 6 item. And the three scales have been proved to have high reliability and validity.Secondly, boys'motivations are higher than girls'in all dimensions, and primary school students'motivations are higher than middle school students'. Finally, the participation motive of students living in city and town are stronger than those in countryside.Thirdly, on the participation atmosphere, boys feel more hinder factors than girls. In addition, primary school students and city students get more support than others.Fourthly, boys'sports perseverance is stronger than girls, primary school students'perseverance is stronger than middle school students, and sports perseverance of students living in city and town are stronger than those in countryside.Fifthly, the path analysis of youth participation outdoor sports motives, atmosphere and perseverance showed that participation motive and atmosphere both directly determine the perseverance. By contrast, participation motivation plays a greater role. In addition, atmosphere can predict participation motives.Combining previous research conclusions, the author put forward suggestions for future development of youth outdoor sports in out country.
