Research On Anthony Giddens' Ontological Security Theory

Exploring the survival and development of safety and security is a cross-cutting theme of sociological theory research in the past. With the emerging of various crises and risks, such as natural disasters, wars, terrorist attacks, epidemics, financial crises, network viruses, nuclear threat, global climate, and so on. The contemporary sociological theory research is more directly cutting into the security, and more actively stepping into human social life and actual security needs, so the traditional issues of sociological on security have been updating, and formed a sociological orientation in the field of security research. In the context of the global risk society, the continuity individual maintaining the self-identity and the confidence to action between social and physical environment have been affected, that Giddens'phrase "ontological security" was affected. Ontological security is a category in Giddens'theory, and it appears in his "the Constitution of Society", "The Consequences of Modernity", "Modernity and self-identity" and other writings. Giddens attempts to deal with the relationship between structure and operation, system and everyday, macro and micro in a new theory perspective and method. Giddens'discussion on ontological security is an organic content to achieve his intention of the above theory.This paper take the ontological security as a microscopic theory, and emphasis on the impact on ontological security in the risk society, by exploring its source, its status in Giddens'theoretical system and how it acts on the operation of individual and society .This study hopes to link the modern theory of Giddens to his structuration theory by the concept of "ontological security".At present, the interweave of the modernity of globalization and the local social transformation has help a series of social symptom complex, China has also been drawn into the global risk society, it is increasingly evident that the various social problems and contradictions are influencing ontological security. Furthermore, investing reflections on the sociology toward safety research, especially individual safety research, which is a ontological reflection.
