This article follows a logical system to elaborate Beck’s theory of risk society.Taking reflexive modernity and risk as a starting point,Baker’s theory is related to politics through the consequences of each domain. The author discusses in detail some of the key concepts in the theory and the relationships between them. The author points out that Beck’s account is valuable in the context of the development of modernity. It provides a path to understanding social solidarity while noting the relationship of scientific knowledge to decision-making and power in modern societies and the resulting generalization of the political sphere. However, because of the excessive focus on risk and security issues,Beck uses various simple binary divisions in his theory-industrial society/risk society;scientific rationality/social rationality;and subjects with power/subjects without power. These dichotomous divisions exaggerate the problems in the real world, and simplify the diverse groups and blurred boundaries in the real world. This makes it difficult for Beck’s theories to deal with many important new phenomena in the real world. The author discusses the limitations of these dichotomies in detail and tries to provide some ideas and practices that might expand Beck’s theory.
