The Research On The Professionalization Of University Counselors

Counselors are integral parts of teaching staff of a university, are the front-line organizers and implementers of daily work of university, such as, Ideological and Political Education and Administration. They also play a leading role in holding the activity of Ideological and Political Education for the students.Counselors construction has long been put under great consideration. In the last 1950s, JiangNanXiang, principal of Tsinghua University at that time first proposed to build students political counselor system, that is, institutions of higher learning counselor system, to do the student political and ideological work. This system laid the foundation for the counselors routine work, political and ideological work, campus cultural activity, as well as the psychological counseling. What is more, it made a great contribution to the construction of university counselors and in the end made a great progress. However, something important should not go unnoticed, that is, we should be aware of the weakness of our counselors construction, which mainly display in the following aspects: non-professional; Lack of comprehensive theoretical framework, unified value system and accepted professional standard; large amount of personnel mobility. Therefore, how to make it more professional, building a harmonious and stable team of counselors has always been the main concern of CPC Central Committee, State Council, the Ministry of Education, as well as some scholars and students ideological workers.Starting from the concept of professionalization, taking the standards of professionalization into account, this article provides a further analysis on the definition and concept of professional counselors in terms of specialization, professionalization, exportation, socialization and standardization to illustrate the connotation of professional counselors so as to help us have a clear reorganization of counselor professionalization. We should illustrate the necessity of counselor professionalization from four areas, strengthening and development of ideological and political work of university students, construction of a high level counselor faculty, safeguarding university harmony and stability, and expanding source of party cadres. The theory of counselor professionalization has undergone a continuous course of enrichment and development from its bring forward to development, from abroad to mainland, from theory to practice and is bound to have a positive effect on the construction of university counselor faculty. Then we need further to elaborate on the trend of counselor professionalization and pattern of career development, theoretical support, university enrichment, environment and policy support to analyze the practicality of implementing university counselor professionalization. Based on the above analysis, we will develop our discussion on counselors'professional access mechanism, training and development mechanisms, security system and evaluation mechanism from the responsibility of counselor professionalization and quality orientation so as to provide strategic advice for building up a highly qualified group of university professional counselors. Research in this article provides reference for us to build professionalized counselor armies with characters such as: strong politics elaborate business, strict principle and correct style.
