Educational modernization is the prerequisite of the Social modernization. In thecourse of the modernization of the European countries and America in the 19 century,the ruling class generally awarded of the critical function of education to social development. They brought education into the range of national activities one after another, set up public schools by administrative method and established compulsory national education institution by means of law. Thus appeared the nationalization tendency of education in the modern history of the Western countries. This tendency greatly promoted the development of educational modernization in European countries as well as America. And it provides prerequisite for the realization of the educational modernization. As developing countries, China and many other nations should learn experiences from developed countries. No doubt, this kind of nationalization tendency of education is a valuable question for study at present. However, in the current study, discussion about this tendency can only be seen in some theses and books partly and scattered on it. The systematic study hasn't been carried out. So this thesis tries to inquirythe Nationalization tendency of education from theoretical and practical prospects comprehensively, by means of historical inspection and comparative analysis, so that it is helpful to our current educational reform and can promote the process of educational modernization.There are four parts in the thesis:Part I is the theoretical study on the educational nationalization. It first analyzes the basic meaning of educational nationalization, reveals that the epoch-making signifi?ance of educational nationalization lies in that it turns education from the function and rights of family into the function and rights of nation. Secondly, it expounds that the essence of the educational nationalization is the educational legalization. On the basis of this, it points out that the educational nationalization is akind of progressive tendency, which embodies in: 1. It meets the needs of the development of the modern social production. 2. It endows education with the strategic status that it should have in modern society.3. It makes science and technology play their roles on actions. In a word, the educational nationalization is the mark of the modernization in the field of education. It is the necessary act for the realization of the social modernization.Part 11 is the historical examination on the tendency of educational nationalization. The educational nationalization tendency emerged and developed in Europe in the 19th century. Afterwards, its influence spread to the whole world. Japan immediately grasped this chance and realized the modernization rapidly. In the current worldwide educational reform, the developed countries try to maintain their advantageous positions in the international competition through perfecting educational nationalization. Meanwhile, the developing countries try to finish their industrialization process through realizing educational nationalization.Part Ill discusses the influence and significance of the educationalnationalization tendency to our country. The educational nationalization tendency in thEuropean countries and America of the 19 century had an influence on our country.But since we misunderstood the essence of modern nation, we missed this historical development chance. In the current educational reform, we should clearly aware that the educational nationalization is the prerequisite of the educational modernization. The essence of educational modernization, the legalization character of modern nation and the practice of our country's economic system reform determine this.
