This dissertation studies the curriculum reform at PE departments in China. In the new century, China, like other countries, recognized that the teacher is the core of education reform, and that the key point in regenerating education lies in the improvement of teacher抯 quality. And the quality of PE teachers in school physical education, whose improvement depends on the curriculum reform of PE specialty, is crucial in the reform of school physical education. Curriculum reform is a long-term systemic project, and different strategies should be adopted in different periods of time and in different places. What抯 more, the reform must proceed from the reality, follow the development law, and draw on the experience of the advanced countries. From the history of PE teachers?education and its curriculum development, it is found that the curriculum development of PE teacher education in China is different from the advanced countries. it starts under the pressure of external development and the interference of government, and develops with 憁imetic?and 慸ependent?as features in different phases without protracted process of natural growth. Acknowledging these important features is fundament to the curriculum reform. This dissertation analyzes the history and reality of curriculum reform of PE teachers?education in China profoundly, including standards for the development of PE specialty, overall features and curriculum development trends in the main advanced countries, the pros and cons in Chinese learning from the west, and problems and disadvantages in Chinese curriculum reform of PE teachers? education. The reform involves various backgrounds and factors, and it is the theoretical basis of the reform to make clear the history and reality of the reform. It is believed in this dissertation that the first thing should do in the reform is to put forward the development standards, which should be based on the professionalism, professionality and the development law of PE teachers. The development of PE teachers?education curriculum is aiming at increasing the record iii * ~ __ ___ ____ of education, extending the schooling time, strengthening elementary education, professionalizing teaching contents, multiplying the curriculum system, and synthesizing the courses. To examine reasons for the difference between the curriculum structure of PE specialty in China and other countries from the aspects of education system of advanced education, social background, cultural concept and curriculum thoughts can help prevent from following the disastrous road of 憌holesale imitating Russia?in the transmission period in the 1950s. There are problems existing in the curriculum system of PE specialty, such as inappropriate knowledge structure, inadequate academic research, insufficient educational theoretical courses, and deficient emphasis on teaching practice, which should be recognized and settled.
