Aesthetic education is a kind of educaiion canied out by drawing assistance frombeauty of ait, beauty of nature and beauty of society so as to train the students?correct, progressive and noble aesthetic standards and to raise their ability of feeling beauty, appreciating beauty and creating beauty. All these are in order to purify their soul, improve their moral character, increase their knowledge and skill, develop their intelligence and build up their health. Since aesthetic education plays an important role in improving the students?quality in an all-round way, it becomes an indispensable part in our countty抯 quality education.Our counUy抯 ancient aesthetic educational thought has affected educational practice on a great extent However, the time that aesthetic education became a part of pedagogy and had been advocated and demonstrated definitely ~s at the end of the l9thcentuiy and the beginning of the 20th centuly. From that time to round about the May 4th Movement, a few educators and thinkers who had made an important effect on education circles in Modem China contributed their share to the enlightenment, enlargement and deepening of our country抯 aesthetic educational thought. They were influenced not only by the traditional culture of the feudalism but also by the culture of the west Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao, the famous political thinkers, are the earliest initiator. At the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Wang Guowei, the famous scholar, first introduced the concept of aesthetic education from the West. He thought that aesthetic education was an important part of education on training the student to become a complete developed person. He and LuXun had analyzed and probed into the use and the value of aesthetic education and the mechanism of aesthetic knowledge on the nation抯 fate and future so as to expand the study scope of aesthetic education. Cat Yuanpei, the democratic revolutionist in Modem China, first made aesthetic education as the countty抯 educational policy. He also comprehensively discussed the nature, the use, the position and the enforcement method of aesthetic education. Moreover, round about the May 4th Movement many aesthetes and thinker had discussed the problem of aesthetic education from the different angles and aspects. Their aesthetic educational thought experienced a progress of systematizing and deepening, and showed centripetal force and the cohesive force of anti-imperialist and anti-feudal which is the main trend of the times.桰I?This thesis summarized and analyzed the represented aesthetic educational thought in Modem China Fuitheimoi~, it provided a few personal views of how to inherit and develop the thought of Chinese Modem aesthetic education effectively in the contemporary em. The main suggestions are as following: (1) To pay attention to the position of aesthetic education in quality education: (2) To regard the Marxist aesthetic judgment as the guide ideology; (3) To practice the systems engineering of family aesthetic educaflon~ school aesthetic education and society aesthetic education;(4)To set up ajudgment system of aesthetic education. Thus we will create a new situation in aesthetic education.
