"Two courses" is the shortened form of Marxism Theory Course and Ideology and Morality Course in college. As the major means and field to give students systematic political and idealistic education, "Two courses" plays an important role in guiding and helping students to establish scientific views of world, life and social values. As a special group in college, the "two-course teachers" are shouldering important historical missions to educate and arm the students with Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory, and to help them establish the scientific views of world, life and social values, and therefore to cultivate them into qualified construction and successors of socialist career.In the recent years, thanks to the special attention from the party and the state the construction of the "two-course-teacher" team has attained obvious progress. The state has established some policies and laws and regulations relating to "two courses", and has set up and perfected the systems of training and cultivating, hence, the qualities of the "two-course" teachers have been improved a lot and the structure of the team has become better balanced. On the whole, it is no exaggeration to say that this is a team consisting of teachers of high political, idealistic and professional qualities. In then- long time work of teaching the "two courses", they have exerted their utmost efforts to make our country prosperous and strong, and they have made great contributions to cultivate thousands of qualified people of abilities for the construction of the socialist modernization career, and they have done a lot for the construction of material and spiritual civilization. However, there still exists some problems in the construction of the "two-course-teacher" team, such as the imperfect relative laws and regulations, some teachers' being lack of steadfast political and life beliefs, the low position of the "two-course teachers", the team being unstable and the imperfect structure of the team, etc. Therefore, in the new situation, the "two-course teachers" still face unprecedented challenges if they want to better accomplish theirmissions. One challenge comes from the profound reforms of the international political and economical situations, which have raised a higher requirement for the cultivation of the political and idealistic qualities of a person. Secondly, the rapid developments of modern science and technology, especially that of information network technology and its culture, have imposed great influences on the education of ideology and morality, party principles, the possibility of controlling the education environment, the traditional mode of teaching the "two courses" and the mode of cultivating people of abilities as well as the establishment of the personality of the subject of education. Besides, the various idealistic concepts and people's views of social values that arise hi the period of transition of our society will greatly affect the formation of the college students' views of world, life and social values. Moreover, the new features that have embodied in the subject of education require that the teaching of the "two courses" must be of more pertinence and the sense of time. All the above will challenge the construction of the "two-course-teacher" team.In order to actively face the challenges, we must first have a clear idea of the guiding principles and the targets of strengthening the construction of the "two-course-teacher" team in the new situation so that we can construct a well-structured and vigorous "two-course-teacher" team of high level that can fit the development of the new situations, the members of which should comprise enough teachers of good quality.
