The University Council And The University District In Nationalist China

The university council and the university district was a new educational administrative system copied France's by educational administrative committee Cai Yuanpei and Li Shizeng, etc, in Nanjing Nationalist China between 1927 and 1929. Though it only ran less than two years, it has had significant position in Nationalist China education history, however, few research has been made on it, this research paper is trying to complete this gap.The first section of this paper deals with the background of the university council and the university district based on the educational independent thought in the education independent thought in Nationalist China. It copied France's university district. The second section introduces the specific details on its foundation, operation and failure. The causes of its failure are analyzed in last section.Cai Yuanpei , the eminent educator in Nationalist China, is the main advocator and leader of the university council and university district, "the case of university council" is also the turning point of his life. The research of the university council and university district helps to understand the history of Cai in this period.
