Modern distance education, a new form of distance education which is supported by modern information technologies, is resulted from the combination of both the development of modern science and technology and modern education. It is a modern education network system characterized by the digitalization, multimedia and interactive which are supported by computers and satellite network. Modern distance education brings about many changes in education, including its ideology, education methodology, and course content. To meet this new situation in education, the primary and secondary schools in Chong Qing(CQ) Municipality are working hard to promote the development of the modern distance education, establishing satellite broadcast system, school-based website, with the help of the education of modern information technology. However, at present, some primary and secondary schools in CQ do not have a good understanding for modern distance education. Modern distance education lacks a good hardware platform. Software building for modern distance education is left behind. The qualities of teachers and students can't adapt to Modern distance education. All these hinder the development of the modern distance education in the primary and secondary schools in CQ. Therefore, with the help of my study at this area both in and out of the China, I'm trying hard to do a detailed research and analysis, and also put forth some tentative ideas for the modern distance education in CQ's primary and secondary schools.This dissertation is divided into five parts:PART ONE presents the question for study and the background, briefly discusses the present situation of the study both at home and abroad, and puts forth the questions for study.PART TWO analyses the concept, features of modern distance education and the possible changes to education, and brings about the development in this area in foreign countries with the help of the study of modern distance education.PART THREE raises the problems in modern distance education of CQ's primary and secondary schools, through the analysis of the present situation in these schools.PART FOUR analyses the problems in terms of recognition factors, economic conditions, technology possibilities and operational mechanism.PART FIVE brings about the suggestions from the existing situation and problems of CQ's primary and secondary schools' modern distance education.
