Developing demonstrative senior high schools to expand the scale of excellent high education sprouts up as a hot topic in China's educational reform. In 1995, at the Meeting on the National Ordinary Senior High School Education, the State Education Commission formally carried out the programme of developing 1,000 or so demonstrative senior high schools around China. Up to now according to respective actual conditions, most provinces, municipals and autonomous regions have been trying to constructing and have evaluated a batch of senior high schools as the demonstrative to promote the development of local high schools' education and expand their excellent educational resources.During my work-practicing in the Elementary Education Office under the Education Department of .Guangxi Zhuaig Autonomous Region, 1 had the opportunity to go with the officials there to visit and inspect those evaluated schools. Taking this opportunity, I made an investigation myself by handing out the questionnaire, talking with principals, teachers and students. All these are of great benefit to the accomplishment of my thesis.Basing on the performance of constructing demonstrative senior high schools in Guangxi, I present my thesis theorically and practically by four parts: firstly, analyzing the historical & international backgrounds of the occurrence of demonstrative senior high schools; secondly, giving the definition, characteristics, the possibility and necessity and the principals of constructing them, etc; thirdly, the concrete practice of the demonstrative high school construction in Guangxi including the situation of constructing the project-evaluation of Guangxi demonstrative high schools and the analysis of three case-studies; the last part, pointing out the problems and their suggestions and solutions. In this thesis, you will see three characteristics. First, it can work as a reference for those general managers who are in charge of the programme. Second, it can offer some practical and operative methods for local performers. Third, it would be possible to give an impetus to the emergence of high schools with their own special features in the land of Guangxi in the near future by analyzing the above-mentioned 3 case-study.The construction of demonstrative senior high schools in China is still in its infantile. It is such a new policy and measure that few people have made a systematic study on it. So there are more work and study for us to do and what 1 deal with here needs more advises from the experts.
