Study On The Situations Of Social Capital In Rural Community

On the basis of social capital concept and theory, the article analyzes the stock nd the operation state of social capital on different levels in rural community throughthe case of a rural community. In the study, the author uses the field work method of anthropology and questionaire research method of sociology. On the research object,this study expands the definition of social capital and criticizes the studies of social capital in economic perspective. The author pays attention not only to the functions ofsocial capital for the development of economy and society, but also to the functions of social capital for social stability and social support between people. As for theperspective of the study, the author analyzes the situations and the problems in different levels of social capital in rural community from various aspects, such associal capital carriers, forms, roles, traits, and factors that would bring impact on social capital. At last, the author poses some strategies to raise the stock of socialcapital in rural community. The first chapter of the article points out the meaning of study on the concept and theory of social capital. Social capital has become a common notion in social sciences,as sociology, economics, politics and anthropology, etc. It is a reflection of comprehensiveness and relation orientation of contemporary sociological theory. Sosocial capital concept and theory is suitable for the study of Chinese society, which has been regarded as the characteristic of relationship and ethic orientation.Chapter two reviews the studies on social capital theories in following aspects: origin and revolution of social capital concept, traits and functions, research fields,operation mechanism and measurement of social capital. The article also points out the problems in these studies. Firstly, these studies have the narrow definition ofsocial capital. Secondly, many studies just focus on the economic functions of social capital, while pay less attention to other functions of it. Thirdly, these studies showthe tendency of pursuing the goal of quantitative analysis in the methodology. Chapter three is the design of this study, the author poses the framework and hypotheses of study according to social capital theories. This chapter also explains thechoice of the case, the methods and the processes of the research. Chapter four describes and analyzes the general situations of the case community and itsrepresentation.Chapter five is the achievements of the survey and the analysis, the author observes and analyzes the stock, functions and operation mechanism of social capitalin rural community in following aspects: the situations of social relationship in rural community, social capital in the cultivation of human capital in the community, therelation resources in labor transferring from agriculture to industry in rural society, the changes of community rite and its role in the creation of community social capital,and the keeping or the using of public materials in community.Chapter six is the conclusion and suggestion of the study.
