The inquiring teaching is not only the fundamental requirement of the high school curriculum reform in China but also an effective approach towards quality education . The following dissertation looks into the nature and the implications of the inquiring teaching and systematically explores the theries concerned at home and abroad. Having conducted a series of comparative experiments and analysed their results, the author investigates the inquiring teaching, its methods and effectiveness in the Biology teaching practice with its curreat textbook. Furthermore, the author is convinced that only if teachers are skilful in utilizing the inquiring teaching strategy , can the teaching quality be enhanced and its aims obtained. Successful performances of the inquiring teaching will both lend the students more interest in studies and improve their abilities to solue problems in creative manners, and that is with no negative impact upon the students' academic records.
