Title: Analysis of Sternberg's Idea of the Gifted EducationRobert Sternberg's idea of the gifted education is one of the most influential and representative viewpoints that emerged recently in American gifted education. This dissertation discusses Robert Sternberg's idea of the gifted education from the following aspects: the conception , the identification and the teaching of giftedness, analyzes the characteristics and the background for the formation of it from the purpose and study methods of comparative education. This dissertation aims at understanding and grasping the recent trends in American gifted education, realizing and reflecting the present situation in Chinese gifted education, providing some references for Chinese gifted education.This dissertation adopts the following approaches to the analysis of Sternberg's idea of the gifted education: documents reading approach , comparative approach historical approach , other research methods of comparative education. The documents reading and comparative approaches are two main research methods. My research consist of seven parts:The introduction discusses the questions that will be studied, documents about Sternberg's idea of the gifted education the purpose and significance of this research , contents, study methods and the structure of this dissertation.The second and third parts discuss and analyze the basic content and characteristics of Sternberg's idea of the gifted education. The second part deals with Sternberg's conception , the identification and teaching of giftedness from the aspects of intellectual giftedness and teaching for successful intelligence. The third part analyzes the characteristics of Sternberg's idea of the gifted education from comparative angle: vertically comparison with the traditional view on the gifted education, horizontally comparison with the contemporary view of Joseph.S.Renzulli , Ho ward. Gardner.The fourth part analyzes the background for the formation of Sternberg's idea of the gifted education from American particular time and space background and Sternberg's personal educational and research background.The fifth part discusses its position and influence on American gifted education from the two aspects : Sternberg and National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented ,Sternberg testing the effectiveness of teaching for successful intelligence.The sixth part draws conclusions that Sternberg's idea of the gifted education having the characteristics of facing all the students, developing all the students analyticaK creative and practical ability. The last part puts forwards the questions that should be studied in the future.
