Composition is an individual and creative activity. However, most students' writings follow the same pattern, with very little independent thinking, nor any personal emotions and creative use of language. Therefore, the compositions lack individuality and creativeness. This runs against the law of the development of students and society. In order to change the current situation and bring the function of improving the student's quality into full play, the present author recommends individualized composition.Mr. Zhang Zhi-gong once said: " Chinese teaching might be regarded as 'a hard nut to crack' in the common educational work.. But composition teaching is perhaps the 'hard nut to crack' in Chinese teaching. In other words, composition teaching is the 'hardest nut to crack'". In my opinion, composition is most difficult because it is affected by the complexity of the writer's thinking process, personal feelings and individual psychology, in addition to the external factors. In this thesis, the author first presents the notion of individualized composition. Then the author discusses the essential factors of individualized composition by examining the feedback to the questionnaire about individualized composition and composition teaching. Finally, the author makes an investigation into the characteristics of writing individualized composition. The discussion of individualized composition is presented from two aspects: the teacher and the student, because both are involved in the teaching process. When discussing the guidance of the teacher in individualized composition, the author focuses on finding out students' psychology, complying with students' individual psychology and creating the unique style of writingteaching. When examining the student's role in individualized composition, the author attaches great importance to student's experience, true emotions, creative thinking and unique expression. The author hopes that the discussion of individualized composition may help change the monotonous pattern of students' composition and provide some reference for the reformation of composition teaching in the new century.
