Values refer to the set of principles, beliefs and criteria by which subjects, based on the significance and importance that objects have to subjects and society, make their evaluations and choices. The values towards physical training, as a special state of values, is internal criteria held by people when they come to know and evaluate the importance that physical training and the similar phenomena have to themselves and the society. The values towards physical training occupy a very important position in individuals' social and sports life. And whether they realize it or not, those values are always there in people's mind and directly influence people's evaluations on and choices from physical trainings and their sports activities. Middle school stage is an important period for adolescence to form their various kinds of values. And so far as physical training is concerned, whether middle school students have a healthy and stable values towards physical training will directly influence their healthy growth and their forming of a good quality. In order to understand the status quo of values held by the urban middle school students towards physical training in Henan Province during the transitional period between the 20th and the 21st century, and have a discussion of the problem as to how to cultivate students' values towardsphysical training. This paper will use the following research processes.1. Based on psychology and the theory of value philosophy, the author explores the concepts of the values towards physical training and its main features listed as follows:A. Subjective B. Selective C. Stable D. Socio-historical E. Staged F. Directive G. SystematicThese concepts and main features supply as a theoretical support for the further analysis in this paper.2. The author develops a questionnaire used for investing values held by middle school students towards physical training. And by using factor-analyzing method, the author divides these values into twelve dimensions. Based on this division, the author makes a further analysis of the compositional system and characteristics of the values held by urban middle school students towards physical training in Henan Province. The analysis shows that the middle school students form a compositional system in which the value orientation towards body-building stands at the core with many value orientations intersected with one another. Their cognitive levels of the values towards physical training are ordered as follows: body-building, harmonizing a community, entertaining, regulating one's psychology, making friends, tempering willpower, strengthening one's competitive awareness, increasing one's wisdom, appreciation of thebeautiful, self-expression, killing time, body-building investment, etc.. The author also makes a comparison between the values held by junior high school students towards physical training and those held by senior high school students. Result shows that junior high school students pay attention to the natural value property of physical training, while senior high school students pay more attention to the social value property of physical training. Besides, their values towards physical training will become more and more stable with the growth of their ages. The total marks that the female middle school students get from the investigations about their values towards physical training are lower than the male students. There are drastic differences between male and female middle school students in their aesthetic and self-expressive values. Female students get higher marks on the dimension of aesthetic values, while male ones on the dimension of self-expressive values.3. The author also sums up four basic features of the values held by urban middle school students towards physical training in Henan Province. These four features are listed as follows:A.
