Spoken language is not only one of the most important component parts of Chinese, but also more needed nowadays. But the author finds middle school students, especially ones in rural areas, are so poor in it now and it falls far short of the expected standards of the teaching outline. So it always brings trouble to their studies and daily lives. Here the author starts with the causes of the poor spoken language of students and lays special emphasis on the countermeasures. They are to offer spoken language course, do spoken language training in reading and writing lessons, create favorable language environments for the students and establish testing mechanisms. In addition, here the author also put forward the matters needing attention in spoken language training and some other social ones such as compilation of teaching materials, training of teachers from middle schools in rural areas, reformation of examination system and so on.It won't be done in one day to improve spoken language of students in rural areas and it needs long-term training. It can't be done by a single person either ?and it needs joint efforts from the whole society.
