| Decathlon was formally established at the Fifth Olympic Games in 1912 and has not changed until now. It consists of 100-meter race, long jump, shot, high jump, 400-meter race, the discus, column of 110 meters, vault, Javelin and 1500-meter race. All the races will be finished in two days. Decathlon is a comprehensive competition consisting three parts of running, jumping, and throwing. It has the characteristics of possessing a large number of individual events, being physically consuming, and demanding the athletes to be strong in ability, comprehensive in skill and perseverant. It has high requirements for the athletes' form, function, quality, skill, strategy, psychology and intelligence. Therefore those who have won the championship of Decathlon in Olympic Games are generally regarded as the "greatest athletes in the world".The athletically strong countries value the popularization and enhancement of Decathlon very much. Therefore, since the 1912 Olympic Games until now, the world records have been broken constantly, rising from 6087 in 1912 to 9026 in 2001 and improving 2939 in 70 years. With athletic training becoming more and more scientific and the science and technology being adopted in athletic training, the scores of Decathlon will be higher and higher.Though the Decathlon developed quite early in China, it has been backward in Chinese field and track sports, compared with the world level. In 1980s', Chinese Decathlon was in a leading position in Asia. However, after entering 1990s, it gradually lost its advantage. Considering the span of time, the Decathlon in China is behind other countries for nearly 40 years.As a strong country in field and track sports in Asia, we should have our advantage in Decathlon, one important sport in field and track sports. If we can be clearly aware of the reasons for the backwardness of Chinese Decathlon, absorb other countries' experience in training excellent Decathlon athletes and try to improve, we can realize the goal of reaching the leading position of Asia in a short period of time.For this purpose, based on the analysis of the investigation results on . the current development of Chinese Decathlon which was conducted with the investigation method of using material, questionnaire, comparison and statistics, etc, the author treats it as a system and proposes the strategies to improve the situation. The results are like the following:At present, the Decathlon of China is at its beginning stage and far behind the level of the world. There are many reasons. Generally, we can conclude into the following: the whole sport is at the beginning stage; the individual events dorri develop in balance; this sport is lack of reserved force seriously; the trainers' academic level is low, the long-term goal is not clearand not enough emphasis has been given to theoretic research.But analyzed from another angle, the improving speed of the level of world Decathlon is becoming slower. This provides us with opportunities and hope for our country's Decathlon to catch up with the level of the world. This is also where the significance of this research lies.By reviewing over 60 related literatures and analyzing the statistics of a large number of excellent athletes from home and abroad, the author treats the development of Decathlon as a complex project and provides corresponding strategies in the fields of scientifically selecting teaching material, training systematically, improving the level of trainers and reforming the competition system, etc. This gets rid of the one-sidedness of analyzing only from one aspect and provides feasible theoretical and practical foundation for the new rising of Chinese Decathlon.
