Looking back to the history of the human beings, children' s play goes back to ancient times. Parent-child play is an activity based on emotions between the parent and the child, it appears the earliest during the child' s life and lays a good foundation for the development of other play forms. There are important values in the research of parent-child play. Theoretically, it may contribute on the one hand to the enrichment of the theories of children ' s play and the development of early childhood education, on the other hand to the improvement of family education. Practically, it may help parents acquire scientific views of children and education, increase their own qualities and carry out quality education.On the basis of the achievements in the study of parent-child play at home and abroad, this article inquires into the theoretical basis and the values from psychology, sociology and pedagogy, surveys the present conditions of parent-child play in preschoolers' families in the main city propers in Chongqing by literature, questionnaire, interview and observation. The results are as follows:1 .The parents and the children take active attitudes towards parent-child play. Most Parents can understand the meaning of parent-child play and think of play and parent-child play as important factors to the children' s development. However, most parents can neither deal with the relationship between children' s play and study, nor understand perfectly the connotation of play.2. Parent-child play may happen in such places as families and outdoors, it usually lasts 30 minutes and could satisfy children' s needs of play time on the whole. The rate of utilization of the materials including specialized and unspecialized toys is moderate, sometimes the parents encourage and help their children make play materials by themselves.3.There are many contents of parent-child play including physical play, constructive play, role play, exhibition play, music play and intelligence play. Generally physical play happens the most frequently.4.Many parents respect their children' s rights and choices, let the children dominant the course of play and offer some guidance to the children. But many parents behavior passively in the terms of the initiation of parent-child play, they don' t know their values in parent-child play and how to take part in and guide parent-child play scientifically.With regard to the above, the article analyzes the reasons and offers some constructive proposals from the ideas and the behaviors, so as to push forward the implementation and popularization of parent-child play, and to offer some references to the research of parent-child play in Chongqing and even the whole country.
