Parent-child reading, as an essential component of the early reading, emphasizes the interactive communication between parents and children. It bears a special significance for the physical and mental growth of children. While the current research institutions give more attention to early reading in nursery and kindergarten, and it is relatively weak on the study of parent-child reading, so the family early reading lacks scientific and systematic guidance. Based on the previous studies of parent-child reading at home and abroad, this paper inquires into the present conditions of parent-child reading for preschoolers aged between 3 and 6 in Guilin by using quantitative and qualitative method.Throughout the investigation and the case studies on the parents'guiding strategy, we understand the overall situation of the parent-child reading and its specific process. Fortunately, parents and children both take positive attitudes towards parent-child reading, and they like reading with each other. Parent-child reading usually takes place right before sleep on the bedside. It may last 20 minutes, three or four times a week. Those are the books with rich graphics accompanying the text, adaptations of animations and cartoons, magazines for preschoolers, or fairy tales. The parents select books based on the interest and characteristic of their children, or their own taste and ideas if children do not show any preference. Many parents respect their children's initiative and enthusiasm. They provide various guidance to children of different age groups, and participate in reading by acting different roles. Parents see the values of parent-child reading and think of parent-child reading as an important attributor to the children's development. Most parents hold that the interest and reading habit are critical to children's education. The guidance strategies refer to the attitudes and knowledge background of parents, and the age characteristics of children. However, there are some demerits in parent-child reading.
