Reading is crucially important for the development of the middle school students. A reading activity is a process in which the system of cognizance and the system of the motivity incorporate and interact with each other, but it is the reading motivity system consisted of the non-intellectual factors that plays the momentous role. In this system, the motivation to read can arose and inspire one's reading action, and it also has the function of showing the direction for the reading behaviors, then it is obviously the psychological base of the middle school students'willingness to read. The interest in reading means to stimulate and maintain the students' non-intellectual qualities in their reading behaviors and it can make the boring learning change into the happy inner experience, then it is the psychological base of the middle school students' active proneness to read. The moods in reading reinforce and readjust the reading behaviors, and they are also the essential qualities that one uses to purify his/her spirit and to perfect his/her moods and deeds, then it is surely the psychological base of the middle school students'preference to read. The volition in reading is the dynamic factor which keeps and promotes one 's reading behaviors, and it can stir up the middle school students' determination and persistence, so it is the psychological base of the middle school students' quality of persistent reading behaviors. The habit in reading is the consequence of the robotization of beneficial reading, it can improve the middle school students' reading efficiency, so it is the psychological base of the middle school students' reading ability. Without the above significant psychological qualities, the middle school students' reading can not carry on effectively. For a long time, the teaching of reading in middle schools pays more attention to the development of the students' intellectual qualities of reading, but little attention has been focused on the cultivation of the students' non-intellectual qualities for their reading. My survey in the paper indicates that there are quite a few problems existing in the students' non-intellectual reading qualities, which are obviously harmful to the improvement of their reading ability.In accordance with such condition, in my dissertation I put forward a series of practical and efficient approaches for developing the middle school students'non-intellectual qualities in their reading practice. My approaches and methods fit the students' developing rules of their non-intellectual qualities. There are six chapters in my dissertation, among which the first one illustrates the importance and significance in the middle school language learning process and then the point is focused on the decisive function of the non-intellectual factors in the middle school students' reading activities. The core part of the dissertation is from the second chapter to the last one, which emphatically and separately discusses the general theories of the non-intellectual factors in five different aspects, the reading motivation, the reading interest, the reading mood, the reading volition and the reading habit. The author has made a survey about the students' present non-intellectual qualities in their reading and depicted and analyzed it scientifically, upon the result of which a conclusion has been made about the middle school students' developing features and the existing problems of their non-intellectual qualities. Surely some relevant strategies and methods have been proposed to train the middle school students' non-intellectual qualities.
