At the beginning of the new century, with China joining the World Trade Organization, large numbers of professionals with proficiency in English are badly needed. How to make the students master the English language quickly and effectively is a task for every English teacher in China.The author tries Suggestopedia on English teaching in a senior middle school, through using music, English songs, desuggestion, classroom decorations, reading through different tones and intonations, etc. The author tries to arouse the students' subconsciousness in English learning and pays more attention to the students' emotions and feelings in English teaching.By analyzing the present situation of English teaching and learning in Senior Grade Two in Guo Xing Middle School of Hainan Province, the paper emphasizes the urgent need and the importance to reform the English teaching through a brief introduction to Suggestopedia, its background, its theory of language, theory of psychology and its teaching principles. The paper also describes in details the aim, the content, the method, the procedure and the result of the experiment on Suggestopedia and compares its strong and weak points. Taking into consideration the existing problems in English teaching and learning, it gives some suggestions on reforming the English teaching in senior middle schools in China.
