| With the promulgation of the new high school English Curriculum Standards,High School English teaching reform has entered a new stage. The new curriculum focuses on the concept of "people-oriented" education. Much more attention are payed to the realization of the targets of affect, attitudes, and values. So it is urgent for English high school teachers to find a new teaching method in line with the reform. How to make the students learn English actively and autonomously? How to make the students master English quickly and effectively? There is no doubt that the application of suggestopedia into the teaching practice will be a wise choice for the English teachers.Suggestopedia as a teaching method was invented by Bulgaria psychology doctor G. Lozanov in the mid-60's of the 20th century. Its'philosophy is to arouse the learners's subconsciousness in English learning. It helps learners not only feeling good in the case of studying efficiently but also grasping the larger subject contents quickly. So it is widespread in Europe and the United States. In the 1980's, Suggestopedia was introduced to China, but it was not widely spread due to the lack of objective conditions. This paper gives a brief introduction to Suggestopedia's background, definition, and its theoretical basis. According to its principles and teaching techniques, the author designed an application plan and conducted an experiment on the freshmen of senior high school students. The one semester experiment proves that to some extent suggestopedia can tap the potential of students's brain and help the students study actively and quickly. It is not only an effective way to improve students'English study but also a way to help them to build optimistic attitude towards life.By summarizing and analizing the experiment result, some enlightments are got. This paper provides some teaching suggestions and two suggestopedia practices, which can be relevant reference for other teachers. |
