The Dai Nationality is a richer nationality. Its education, however, is much backward. Each one, who is concerned about the development of the ethnic minority area, can not be optimistic about the basic education of the Dai Nationality in Xishuangbanna under the condition that the basic education has been devoted unprecedented attention in our country in recent years. In this article, based on the theory of "Integrated Plurality of the Chinese Nation" and the review of the development situation of the basic education in Xishuangbanna from 1950s' to this day, the author finds and summarizes the present main problems in existence of basic education of the Dai Nationality in Xishuangbanna: lower proportion of students entering schools of a higher grade, lower rate of qualified, higher rate of drop-of, grave study-weariness of the student, etc, analyzes the main reasons resulted in such main problems from the aspects of general character (the general concept, the outdated mode of production, the needy foundation of preschool education, the problems of the school, the bad effect resulted from the present education system, etc.) and specific character (Dai's special concepts, the richer life, religious factor, some of the Dai's social custom, language barrier, the negative attitude of sending the child to school of the parent, etc.) compared with the other nationalities and the negative effect to the local Dai's culture and economic development. In light of the present situation and with the thinking of the development of Dai and the Chinese Nation, the author puts forward some feasible countermeasure to improve the basic education from three more important aspects, the functional institutions concerned of the government, the teacher and the local Dai People, which are closely related with the development of the basic education. Firstly, as for the functional institutions concerned of the government, they should implement the concept of attaching importance to education into practice thoroughly and give priority to the development of the education; set up Education Priority Area for the ethnic minority and make allowance for the disadvantages; hasten the infiltration and reform of the market-oriented economy, bring about the independent change of the production mode in the ethnic minority area; strengthen the activity of running the education and better the way of check and promotion to the leading cadre; strengthen the teacher ranks and heighten its social status; deepen the curriculum reform of the basic education, transmit the culture of the ethnic minority fully; accelerate perfect law on education and administer the education with legal provisions. Secondly, as for the teacher, he (she) should really love each student and his (her) job, study hard continuously to improve the ability to teaching; entirely break away from outdated traditional modes of thought, put the Quality Education into effect really; positively pursue Green Certificate Education, help to combine the education with the economy; train the student with the integrated plurality, bring up a new generation with modern humane quality; take bilingual teaching to the lower grade student to lighten its learning burden; take part in building the local community positively and try to do a Community Teacher. Thirdly, as for the local Dai People, they should have the concept of the Chinese Nation, value Integration; strengthenthe national consciousness of For Itself, develop Plurality; foster the sustained development outlook, try to improve Dai's basic education in any case; firmly fight against feudal superstition and the bad effect to the basic education from the religion; enhance the competitive awareness, adhere to blazing new trails with science and technology, be brave in learning from the developed areas and nationalities.
