In the 20th century, China had basically attained the target of 9-year compulsory education. Now, our fundamental education entre a new phase of development and escalation. Under this new situation, we must build a substantial foundation for increasing of the whole nation's quality and for cultivating talent to build socialistic modernization, so we must adjust and enrich textbooks' contents according to the development of economy , society , science and technology, and we must make textbooks more and more be beneficial for students' development in morality , intelligence and physique. Therefor, how to build textbooks to serve for the higher level fundamental education and attain further goods is a very urgent problem that must be resolved.In the autumn of 1997, a experiment of curriculum reformation in High School began in the two provinces of ShanXi and Jiang Xi and Tian Jin city. After a turn of experiment, it extended into ten provinces and cites in 2000. In the light of revised syllabus, the Physics work unit of the People Education Press published a revised physical textbook and tried out in experimental districts. The new textbook amends very much in comparison with the old ones. One of the outstanding changes is increasing in the quantity of reading material. How is the reading material's status in teachers and students? What functions should it take? How do teachers and students of using textbooks look upon the reading material in their textbooks? What kind of reading material do they need? All these are the starting point and goal of my thesis.Based previous studies of other people, the thesis uses empirical method to investigate teachers and students from three of counties and cities in TaiZhou district of ZheJiang province by virtue of random sampling. In order to understand present usage of reading material inHigh school's physics textbooks. The investigation focuses on Grade One. Thirty of teachers and students are interviewed and 97 teachers and 629 students are surveyed. The data are counted by Microsoft Excel program and are appeared in charts. The thesis uses ZhaoKaihua's "quality and half-quantity method" to analyze the data. The data used in the thesis come from the final investigation to 149 students and 92 teachers.I understand the present usage of fourteen pieces of reading material in Grade One Physics textbook by interview and survey. From the content , time and efficiency of usage of the reading material to teacher-and-students' expectation of content , form and presenting pattern, there be data counting and analysis. So I know students have intense desire for reading material presented by information technology. Thereby, I put forward my point about the function that reading material should have , some problem in compiling reading material and some recommendation about reading material's usage. In the end of my thesis, I raise several problems explored with experts and scholars:Need the state of unification of the whole country's physics textbooks further be discussed? Can the lagging of textbooks be made up for by the good qualities of information resource? How do we have teachers involve actively in curriculum reform to speed up cultivating of studying teacher?...
