In the autumn of 2004, a experiment of curriculum reformation in High School began in four provinces of Guangdong,Shandong,Hainan and Ningxia. After a turn of experiment, it extended into all provinces and cites in 2007. In the light of revised syllabus, the People Education Press published two revised mathematics textbook A and B and tried out in experimental districts. The new textbook amends very much in comparison with the old ones. One of the outstanding changes is revision of material. How is the reading material's status in teachers and students? What functions should it take? How do teachers and students of using textbooks look upon the reading material in their textbooks? What kind of reading material do they need? All these are the starting point and goal of my thesis.Based previous studies of other people,the thesis uses empirical method to investigate teachers and students from Shenyang city of Liaoning Province,Zibo city of Shandong Province by virtue of random sampling. In order to understand present usage of reading material in High school's Mathematics Textbooks. The investigation focuses on Grade two. Twenty-two of teachers and students are interviewed and 17 teachers and 486 students are surveyed. The data are counted by Microsoft Excel program and are appeared in histograms. I understand the present usage of forty pieces of reading material in Mathematics textbook A and sixteen pieces of reading material in Mathematics textbook B by interview and survey. From the content,time and efficiency of usage of the reading material to teacher-and-students'expectation of content,form and presenting pattern, there be data counting and analysis. Thereby, I put forward my point about the function that reading material should have some problem in compiling reading material and some recommendation about reading material's usage.
