A experiment of curriculum reformation in High School extended into Shanxi Province in 2007. The textbook Shanxi Province used in the reformation published by the Beijing Normal University Education Press. The new textbook amends very much in comparison with the old ones. One of the outstanding changes is revision of reading material. On the one hand, the quantity increases, on the other hand,the categery is more detailed. How is the reading material's status in teachers and students? How is the situation of the reading material used? How do teachers and students of using textbooks look upon the reading material in their textbooks?In order to understand present usage of reading material in High school's Mathematics Textbooks, and based previous studies of other people, the thesis uses empirical method to investigate and interview teachers and students from Huxian Middle School and ChangAn Middle School in XiAn city of Shanxi Province. The investigation focuses on Grade two. Twenty-five teachers and students are interviewed and fifteen teachers and one hundred and nine students are surveyed. The data are counted by Microsoft Excel program and are appeared in histograms.From the attitude,time and degree of affection about the reading material to teacher-and-students'expectation of content,form and presenting pattern, there be data counting and analysis. Teachers and students'attitude are active, and read mostly the reading material. Teachers often consider text when they use the reading material, but students consider them by interest. Teachers study the reading material carefully, but students only skim through them. Teachers use the reading material when they prepare lessons, and students use them when they finish homework,get new books and in a tense state. Teachers care about the connection to exams, and the main reason of students enjoying the reading material is interest. The main function of the reading material is extending the scope of knowledge, developing interest and helping understand text. The features of the reading material are extensibility and interest. Teacher-and-students'expectation to content of the reading material is application of mathematical knowledge and history of mathematics;To the form, they think that should be popular;To the way of compiling, they think that should be compiled in company with text;To the number, they think that should be more.The thesis analyse the factor of affecting the reading material's usage in teacher, student,teaching material and evaluating ways of education, as follows:(1)Teachers don't take the reading material seriously in mind, and knowledge structure is imperfect, consciousness is thin; (2)Students'awareness and ability of self-learning is poor;(3)The illustration in teaching material and teacher's manual is less;(4)The most fundamental reason is the evaluating ways of education in our country mainly relying on examination.At last, The thesis give some advice in compiling,teaching reading material and several strategy. For example, creating situation and developing autonomous learning,cooperative learning,inquiring learning and composing paper.
