The thesis is an attempt to study the implementation of task-based language teaching in reading class. Three questions to be discussed in the thesis are: (1) What is TBLT? (2) How is TBLT different from what we have always done? (3) How to implement TBLT in a reading class?TBLT emphasizes the importance of organizing a course around communicative tasks that learners need to do outside the classroom, and facilities learners to do tasks required in language use. The essence of task-based learning is a process of "learning by doing", in which learners engage in naturalistic learning through experiencing and exploring language. In TBLT, a teacher's task is to provide chances and design procedures to make learning effectively. Reading comprehension is an important skill for language learners. Hence, a teacher is required to design learning tasks to help with students' learning process. The thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one is a brief introduction. It concisely unfolds the background and motivation of the study and the problems I attempt to settle. Chapter two begins with an introduction to the notion of task and TBLT, then moves on to introduce some pedagogic proposals in TBLT history. Chapter three attempts to provide a framework for implementing TBLT in reading class, and goals of reading tasks, principles of designing reading tasks, types of reading tasks are proposed in this chapter. Based on the proposed framework in Chapter Three, Chapter four presents some sample task-based reading models. Chapter five draws a conclusion of the thesis and further emphasizes the importance of integrating TBLT theory and classroom practice.
