The extracurricular reading is one of the important content in Chinese course. It is a prominent route for the practice to Chinese studies in the junior students. The advantages of the extracurricular reading are evident in the effective study, motile study, and independent study. In addition, the extracurricular reading is able to moke the students to leam more creatively. Therefore, the development of the extracurricular reading is significance to the broadening of learning fields, intensifying the practice of Chinese learning, and achieving the aim of the Chinese course.In this thesis, we widely investigated the present situation of extracurricular reading in the junior students, collected many conclusions in the literatures and reviewed the extracurricular reading as a new content of Chinese course. In the writing of this thesis, we carefully absorbed the modern concept about the latest extracurricular reading, and analyzed the advantages of the extracurricular reading to the Chinese education and its role to the Chinese education construction. Based on the analyzing of the practical examples and summarizing of the results of questionnaire survey, we reviewed the present circumstances of the extracurricular reading and gave some suggestions to the extracurricular reading in the junior students.From the investigation above, we can get such a conclusion, that is, there is a great potential existing in the Junior Chinese extracurricular reading. Students, teachers and parents hold a positive attitude towards it, and the extracurricular reading itself also shows a tendency to self-reliance, multi-dimension and variation on the whole. But, at present, the potential among junior students, has far from being exploited completely. The outstanding function of the extracurricular reading, in respects of enhancing the comprehensive Chinese quality and realizing the ultimate purpose of the Chinese education, hasn't been exerted so much as possible. As a result, the discussion on the practical countermeasures against the junior extracurricular reading, has once again,become the point of this thesis. During the discussion, we focus on the multitude extracurricular reading elements, which are consistent with the Chinese lecturing and related to the whole Chinese course, such as the upgraded approaches to teachers, parents, instructive strategies, assessing measures, social circumstances and so on.The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, the advantages and the roles of extracurricular reading in the Chinese education are described. In the second part, we analyzed the present circumstances of the extracurricular reading by referring the literatures and the results of questionnaire survey. Finally, we showed the problems in the present extracurricular reading and give some suggestions for improving the extracurricular reading in the junior students, which include the innovation of education concept, improving the quality of educator, changing of evaluation system, optimizing the contents for the extracurricular reading and so on.
