The Comparison Of Status In Extracurricular Reading Between Urban And Rural Junior Students In Xiamen

Chinese extracurricular reading can not only deepen knowledge learned in the class, strengthen the desire for seeking the knowledge and enrich spiritual life and cultivate character,but also it can help students form a good habit of learning, improving their autonomous learning abilities. It is closely connected with people’s lifelong development. However, at present the reading status of junior students is worrying. This article aims to compare and study the reading status between urban and rural junior students, seeking the ways to change it. Therefore, this article does a sample survey on the extracurricular reading in each a middle school in the city and countryside of Xiamen. In order to do the survey better and more fully, this article also does a sampling survey on the extracurricular reading in each fifty teachers in the city and country, then compare and analyze them. In addition, there are many ways in this study, such as literature data method,interview, statistics and logical analysis and so on.The article is based on the survey data, comparing the features in extracurricular reading of urban and rural junior students in Xiamen.It also analyzes the reasons why rural students fall behind urban students obviously and the common shortage in this aspect. And it proposes that the reading environment of rural students should be improved before school and the reading education of preschool age should be strengthened. Also, it puts forward many strategies, like strengthening the library construction, managing the extracurricular reading time of those students in rural and urban places, choosing appropriate reading materials and using scientific and sufficient reading strategies.
