The reform of basic education is a major concern for any state or government, of which curriculum reform remains the focus of the concern. However, basic education involves a great many factors that may contradict one another and the reform of basic education is a complex social issue-a systematic project involving numerous areas and requiring support from all circles. How to implement the principles and achieve the set goals has always been a major concern of curriculum reform. Unfortunately, little importance has been attached to the study of the supporting factors in curriculum reform, or to the critical assessment of the whole process of curriculum reform. The dissertation is a comparative study of the history, the present landscape and the future trend of curriculum reform both at home and abroad. Given the roles of the government, professionals, community and family, and media, a discussion is also done as to how to overcome the prevalent problems in curriculum reform. The political nature of education prescribes the osculation between education and politics. As is known to all, the governments of all levels may exert influence on the nature of education by means of laying the goals to be attained. Of all these, curricula are the vehicles through which the set goals of a state may be fully implemented and, therefore, play the role of a mould for the training of the talents of a nation. So, the governments of all levels play a vital, yet subtle, role in the process of curriculum reform. A reform without the support from the government is beyond imagination. As a matter of fact, governments play the role of a director or conductor whose behavior offers a strong prop in the whole process of curricula reform.Supervision, guidance and criticism from educational professionals are also needed for curricula reform and the professionals include such people as educators, curricular devisers, subject experts, psychologists, and teachers. Offering theoretical support, professionals also participate in the verification and evaluation of the feasibility of curricular reform, provide professional guidance and assistance in the successive stages of the curricular reform and give suggestions and advice on theassessment of the reform within a specified period of time. The most striking difference between professionals of education and laymen is that, armed with educational expertise, professionals can see farther, think deeper, reflect more, judge better, and improve faster. As executors of the curricula reform in basic education, teachers and schoolmasters play a vital role in the implementation of curricula reform. Curriculum reform requires the participation of both the governments and professionals. It is also the very concern of both communities and families, whose understanding and support are vital to the success of the reform. Media, as the means of mass communication, also plays the role of revealing the problems and forewarning the concerned institutions. Both as the preacher and critic in the course of reform, media play a role that shall never be ignored.
