In all new textbooks for elementary mathematics, the textbook published by Southwest China Normal University Press is the first to introduce "mathematical culture" in the form of comic strip from the first year in primary school in China. To study the design and teaching experiments for "mathematical culture" is not only valuable in writing the new textbook, but also effective in helping pupils improve themselves in mathematics and culture. However, the related studies are not sufficient at present. So this study is necessary. Moreover, the author participated in the writing of "mathematical culture" hi the new textbook and laid the foundations of this study. Major content:1 .Discussion on the basis, content, and form, etc. of "mathematical culture" with studying the design for "mathematical culture" in the new textbook.2.Exploration and analysis of the practice and effect of "mathematical culture" hi the new textbook with investigations on teaching experiments.Chief conclusion:1 .The design for "mathematical culture" in the new textbook meets the idea and requirement of Mathematics Curriculum Criterion of Compulsory Education[2], and accords with the logic of mathematics, pupils' ability to learn and their age.2.The "mathematical culture" in the new textbook is accepted by teachers and parents of pupils. It can make pupils have more intense interest and longer sight in mathematics, and encourage pupils to do well in mathematics.3.Both content and form of "mathematical culture" in the new textbook should be more abundant and more various, in addition, more relative to the textbook.
