It is innovational in China's history of mathematics curriculum for elementary schools that the pilot mathematics textbooks for elementary schools have included some contents of statistics and probability during the latest curriculum reform of elementary education, which indicates that statistics and probability have great impact on modern social daily life and cultivating students' whole thoughts and beliefs of mathematics. Therefore, it is necessary and significant to study on how to compile statistics and probability in mathematics textbooks for elementary schools and upgrade its education function in teaching.This paper mainly includes two parts: study on how to compile statistics and probability in pilot mathematics textbooks for elementary schools and on the experimental results of teaching statistics and probability in elementary schools.In the first part, the author mainly analyses the compilation of statistics and probability from following aspects: basic compilation principles, basic skeleton design of compilation, main characteristics and some problems of compilation. The research on experimental results proves that the compilation of statistics and probability is successful, which embodies the idea and the purpose of Mathematics Curriculum Criterion of Compulsory Education, and the compilation mode accords with psychological laws of children's cognition and the logic of mathematics.The author explores the adaptation of statistics and probability in pilot textbooks inteaching by a series of research such as case study, testing, interview and questionnaire investigation. The results of experiments have indicated that the contents of statistics and probability in textbooks are suitable for teachers and students. Mathematics teachers in elementary schools could deal with the lessons of statistics and probability easily and successfully. What's more, the lessons of statistics and probability could promote students' statistics ideas and probability thinking effectively.Especially, there is only some research on compilation of statistics and probability in mathematics textbooks for elementary schools in foreign nations, and which is still on the inchoative stage in China. Therefore, the exploration in this paper contributes to the curriculum reform of Chinese elementary education.
