Autonomous learning, cooperative learning and inquiry learning are important learning methods advocated in the mathematics curriculum reform. Obviously, traditional learning theories of behaviorism emphasize receptive learning, hence the interaction between teachers and students is rare, So this learning method cannot meet the need of instruction in new curriculum. How to put the conceptions of new curriculum into practice and creatively design the teaching process is an important focus of teacher education. Learning theories of constructivism, which regard the learning as an active construction process for learners, provide a new theoretical hypothesis for the new curriculum implementation. According to constructivism, learners do not receive the information passively but actively and optionally perceive the information by the previous cognition structure to construct the meaning. Context, autonomy and sociality are the three important factors in knowledge construction. Teachers' roles change from knowledge transmitters to the organizers, facilitators and cooperators, while students become the knowledge constructers, explorers and researchers. The teaching model autonomous and cooperative learning and effects feedback refinement (autonomous and cooperative learning for short), emphasizes the teachers and students' participation, interaction between teachers and students; connection between knowledge and life reality, integration between autonomy and cooperation, teaching of mathematic, ideas and methods and meta cognition strategies teaching. From 2002.9-2003.7, an experiment has been carried out in Sanmiao Middle Scholl in Hechuan City. One year's experiment shows:1. New teaching design can arouse the students' interests in mathematics and encourage their autonomous learning and improve their learning methods.2. Autonomous learning can foster the student's ability of independent thinking and their self-confidence. It also can reduce the classroom ill-behaviors.3. "Autonomous and cooperative learning" can strengthen students' ability of problem-analysis and problem-solving.4. "Autonomous and cooperative learning" can enhance students' mathematics achievement.
