Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is the new trend in the development of English teaching. CALL lays emphasis on guiding student learning language by means of computers. It aims to get the best learning results through the good integration of teaching contents, teaching process and computer assisting. Nowadays, much attention is paid to the research and practice into CALL in the world. But the research on the applications of CALL, especially on the teaching of reading, is less developed. In this case, the ideas in this paper are significant to the improvement of teaching efficiency, to the all-round heightening of students' quality, and to the enhancement of English teachers ability of utilizing teaching resources.In this paper, the author not only summarizes the previous research and applications of CALL, but also analyses the current teaching of reading and the obstacles to student reading. And then this paper states advantages, the rationale, and feasibility of computer assisting the teaching of reading in high schools. The author also goes further into illustrate how to improve the teaching of reading and enhance classroom efficiency by means of multimedia and the Internet. Finally, the author thinks that some issues should be paid attention to while computers assisting English teaching.
