With the development of the society, it becomes vital for the teaching staff to carry out quality-oriented education in order to cultivate person with ability. Consequently, how to cultivate the integration qualities of the students, and especially, how to develop the innovation ability of the students appeared as an urgent issue in the current education reform. Therefore, the elementary and high school education, which is regarded as the fundamental education, should launch a thorough reform to meet the current needs of the society. The reform should not only include the ultimate goals, but also the specific plans of every class. The new course reform is inevitably connected to the fate of the future of our country.The essential differences between old courses and new courses lie in the concept. The new courses contain the most advanced educational concept and reflect the characteristics of the modern society, which include the economic globalization, integration of various cultures and various forms of social information. Furthermore, the new courses represent the new trends of the world education and people's pursuit of the brilliant future. However, the core of the new courses depends on the fulfillment of it, which is a quite difficult process for the teaching staff to put it into practice. Accordingly, they should make every effort to adapt themselves to the transition.Since all the teaching staff can observe the disadvantages of the traditional teaching methods, which are not favorable for the development of the students. As a result, the discovery teaching method appeared as a goal and basic mode of the new course reform. This paper introduces the background, significance, the basic pattern and the essential elements of the discovery teaching method, and then discusses how to carry out it in the classroom teaching activities. Finally, the author puts forward some issues that go against the application of the discovery teaching method in the current teaching environment.
