The inculcation and development of the humanistic qualities in middle school students has been a concern to current educators. From the rational perspective, this article discusses the value the campus literature has in improving the students' humanistic qualities and to quest for multiform educational methods.Current middle school students' generally have poor humanistic qualities, which is demonstrated in various aspects: their ethical level is relatively low; they lack life value and aggressive and strong mind; there is an absence of creativity; they bear little sense of historical mission and responsibility to society; and their living and surviving abilities are weak. Two principle factors attribute to such condition. One is the suppression and negligence that the traditional exam-oriented education exerts to the development of middle school students' personality. It may result in abnormal development of students' characters without forming healthy and sound personalities. The students would not positively evaluate themselves and lack confidence and independence. Thus they can not build high moral standards and positive attitudes to life. They would consequently lose the persistent, independent and aggressive spirit and lose the creativity. The other fact is the deviation of students' social development led by the traditional exam-oriented education. Under current education condition, more weight is put on books while practice is neglected. Many middle school students are indifferent to the society and pay no attention to self-training of practical abilities. It contributes to their reluctance to take historical mission and social responsibility, and to their poor living and surviving capabilities.With the peculiar implicit education function, campus literature presents imponderable value in facilitating the development of middle chool students' humanistic qualities.First of all, campus literature assists the development of healthy characters of middle school students and influences the creation of sound personality. It helps the middle school students in campus literature writing to examine themselves carefully, evaluate themselves objectively and build confidence and form excellent qualities. It also helps them to keep high moral standards, build correct life values, develop persistent spirits and improve creative abilities.Secondly, campus literature can help with middle school students' social development. Literature writing requires the students to focus on the society and to immerse themselves in life, and thus develops the sense of historical mission and responsibility to life in the students. It makes the students be willing to assume the critical duty of promoting social development. Furthermore, while carrying on the campus literature activities, the students can improve their practical abilities, improve their living and surviving capabilities and combine closely self-development with social development to become all-around high quality elites.
