In order to meet our country's growing demands of more athletic talents and better ability structure, P.E. departments of institutions of higher learning make some reform on knowledge structure in talent training.New specialties emerge as times demand.A good deal of new knowledge is added to teaching system; Adjustment and revise is made in teaching plan. All these put technique teaching in a more difficult situation.1. The number of students in one class increases sharply2. Technique teaching hours decrease obviously.3. Teaching quality needs improving. To let students acquire basic theoretical knowledge, improve their skills and the teaching quality, this paper introduces constructivism into gymnastics teaching:First, teachers make an analysis of teaching targetSecondly, teachers set up a situation for students' practice.Thirdly, students raise questions and discuss.Fourthly, students give hints and instruct.Fifthly, students practice again on the basis of their skill and experience, coming up with the solutions to the questions. Thus, standard movements and skill are constructed through repeated practice. The author chooses P.E. majors (grade 2002, P.E. Department Shandong Normal University), class 5 and 6, as the experimental group, (applying constructivism) class 7 and 8 as the control group (applying traditional teaching approach) and makes and analysis of the results of two groups through comprehensive evaluation, mathematical statistics and questionnaire.1. The result of the ability to finish gymnastic movements: the experimental group: 8.26+0.34;The control group: 7.73+0.66(p<0.05).There is a big difference between the two groups.2. The result of the students ability to explain: the experimental group: 8.56+ 1.02, the control group : 7.83 + 1.13.There is a big difference between the two groups.3. The result of students' ability to help and protect each other. The group: 8.96 +0.98, the control group: 7.93+1.32. Two months later, the same comparison is made again and the result is the same. The conclusion is that constructivism in gymnastics can help students have a deep understanding of new skills and keep it for a long time. According to the statistic analysis of teaching effete, 33.3 percent students of the experimentalgroup grasp gymnastic skill best, 58.4 percent better, and 8.3 percent not so well; 41.7 percent believe that they are competent to teach, 45.8 percent think they showed continue to improve, only 12.5 percent are incompetent But all the students in the experimental group are clear about the important and difficult teaching points. The paper points out that constructivism in gymnastics are still at its primary stage. It still needs improving in many aspects. This paper affirms its advantages and at the same time it gives suggestions on the popularization of constructivism.
