Since the reform and opening up, great progress has been made in the society with high-speed development of economy. Compared to the natural science, education is much closer to social science and has a closer relationship with the society. Hence our education career also develops fast.Students’ development should be accommodated by education and students should meet the requirements of society, which means that the education must cultivate students according to the society’s requirements. However, we have to admit that the education of nowadays can’t meet the society’s requirements on talents at all. Now versatile talents and graduates who have innovation ability are needed. As the higher education can’t keep pace with the times on cultivating student’s innovation ability, the phenomena that the graduates are the jobless exists. In order to figure out that, the guiding ideology of innovation education was forwarded by the Education Department and it was also used by higher education institutions to conduct teaching reform. For the sake of cultivation of satisfied sports talents, reforms should also be made in higher education sports teaching, thus to create new teaching modes which can meet their teaching requirements. And those can enable to improve the teaching quality and the talents cultivation mechanism of sports career. In the conference of education work, we also put forward that we should carry out quality-oriented education which emphasized on cultivating of student’s innovation spirit and practice ability. Under the guidance of the nation’s education policy and combing with teaching practice, educationists of higher education institutions have introduced a variety of teaching modes, among which, Constructivism Instruction Mode is the most one that can be accepted by different countries and institutions and has got remarkable effect. Now higher education instruction is changing from knowledge-oriented teaching to ability-oriented cultivating, so as to help the learning method to gain important place. Moreover, as a new instruction theory, the teaching points of constructivism are really corresponding to the requirements of modern society on talents. The teaching principle that centers on student’s self construction without ignoring the external stimulation provides an opportunity for gymnastics teaching reforms. And meanwhile, it also comes up with many teaching methods which are favor for attracting student’s active participation. The successful application of Constructive Instruction Mode solves the existing gymnastics teaching problems in some institution’s teaching work.This article bases on constructivism theory and optimizes teaching methods with teaching reforms as the entry point, which aims to enhance student’s independence and cooperation on study. And it concludes foreign and domestic constructivism theories by reviewing literatures and interviewing experts, going over the detail of constructivism theory, abstracting constructivism thoughts and establishing constructivism teaching modes and methods. This article discusses problems shown up when constructivism teaching modes are applied in gymnastics teaching and concludes gymnastics teacher’s teaching behaviors under the guidance of constructivism theory. Then experiments have been undertaken in two classes selected randomly among sports teaching majors of Grade2011in Shaanxi Normal University, during which traditional teaching modes have been applied in different classes. Constructivism instruction modes have been used in teaching practice in experimental classes. Collecting, counting and analyzing have been done through questionnaire method and mathematical statistics method after the experiment, and then the following conclusion has come out:Students who are taught by constructivism instruction modes perform better than those by traditional instruction modes on studying interests in gymnastics, thoughts and further development of gymnastics actions, and cooperation. Teaching methods under constructivism instruction modes could encourage students to explore and study actively as well as make the motor skills to produce motor presentation in the brain. And the real situation, interaction between students and harmonious study atmosphere are also helpful to the formation of student’s motor skills. However, there are also some shortcomings in the Constructivism Instruction Theory that need further improvement and optimization so that it can serve for gymnastics teaching in higher education institutions and cultivate satisfied talents for the society.
