Aesthetic education is a key part of quality education and one of the basic tasks of course teaching in the basic education phase. Middle School geography leads the students to understand human being's living environment reveals the close relationship between nature and human beings, and contains varied aesthetic elements. During the geography teaching, aesthetic education needs the requirement of today's geography quality education, reaches the goal of emotion, attitude and value in Geography Curriculum Standard, makes the students gain colorful aesthetic feeling, correct aesthetic sense, and the ability of appreciating, evaluating and creating beauty and then engender the motivation to love and protect beauty.To make a general survey of the situation of modern geography teaching, we are sure about our achievements. However, aesthetic education in geography is really the weak link demanding strengthened. Since 1990's, international geography circles have called on the attention on aesthetic education. At the same time, domestic geography circles and education circles put forward the objective and demands of aesthetic education in geography teaching. Accordingly, geography-teaching materials have been reformed. Compulsory education textbook Geography (Grade 7, Book One and BookTow)-first passed in 2001 and published by People's Education Publishing House-regards quality education as goals, Geography Curriculum Standard as guide and adds something about geography aesthetics. This paper analyses the background of geography aesthetic education by the means of comparison. It regards the aesthetic education in this teaching material as the object of study, classifies the aesthetic education contained in the material into five types by use of document analysis and statistics. They are natural beauty, formal beauty, social beauty, scientific beauty and artistic beauty. And it also analyses the constitution of aesthetic education specifically, discusses the relationship among five types of aesthetic education, clears and definites the content system, interprets the characteristics and puts forward the scientific and efficient strategies of implementing aesthetic education in geography.
