The expanding of the meaning of "Reading, Writing and Arithmetic" with the support of information technology Zhou Rong(School of News and Journalist of Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing 210097, Jiangsu, China)"Reading, Writing, Arithmetic" are three footstones of elementary education in traditional education. However, in print era, the meaning of "Reading, Writing, Arithmetic "is always limited at text-based reading, writing and logic operation. With the development of information technology, the connotation of "Reading, Writing, Arithmetic" is also extending. In information era, " Reading, Writing, Arithmetic " get new technological meaning and humanistic meaning.Based on technological hierarchy, the meaning of "Reading, Writing, Arithmetic" has extended, referring to "Read-in, Expression, Digital simulation". Meanwhile, the objects of "Read-in, Expression, Digital simulation" are not limited at language conceptions, but include graphic, image, sound and animation.Based on humanistic hierarchy, in traditional education, the linguistic logical thinking of students has been cultivated by "Reading, Writing, Arithmetic" , but the cultivation of visual thinking is overlooked. However, in information era, visual culture develops quickly, the importance of visual thinking becomes noticeable, modem education needs to find new practical method to cultivate visual thinking, the method is, "seeing, imaging and drawing".The new humanistic meaning of "Reading, Writing, Arithmetic" is especially important to educators working at educational technology, for culture is a bridge between technology and education. We shall recognize the humanistic meaning of "Reading, Writing, Arithmetic" and cultivate right educational opinions, so that we can understand the status of technology in education and take advantage of the technological meaning of " Reading, Writing, Arithmetic" .Linguistic logical thinking and visual thinking depend on each other. So the entire meaning of " Reading, Writing, Arithmetic " includes both text-based " Reading, Writing, Arithmetic " and "seeing, imaging and drawing". Informational education needs us to recognize the dependent relation between these two kinds of thinking and cultivate these two kinds of thinking using informational technology.The Research and Practice of Cultivating Visual Literacy with the Support of Information Technology is subsequent issue of this issue. Based on the theoretical research of this issue, the subsequent issue will search for the practical measures for cultivating visual thinking.
